DAV 2023-2024 Legislative Program

Greetings all,

Below you will find the memo announcing the release of DAV National’s Legislative Program. This is the compilation of all of the work done by Chapters, Departments, and finally the National Convention. I feel very strongly about this book, because it shows who we are as an organization, it is in black and white what we are trying to achieve.

I have done this in the past, I am going to do a random scroll through and highlight 3 of the resolutions in the book. The title and the “Therefore” clause for you to see.

Random 1)  RESOLUTION NO. 215 – Oppose Any Proposal That Would Reduce Payments of Department of Veterans Affairs Disability Compensation by Payments of Social Security Insurance, Social Security Disability Insurance or Any Other Federal Benefit Paid to a Veteran

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that DAV in National Convention assembled in Atlantic City, New Jersey, August 5–8, 2023, opposes any measure that proposes to offset the payment of any other federal benefit or earned benefit entitlement from VA compensation payments made to service connected disabled veterans.

Random 2)  RESOLUTION NO. 445 -Support Legislation to Ensure That Total Disability Based on Individual Unemployability Remains Available for All Veterans Regardless of Age or Receipt of Any Other Earned Federal Benefits

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that DAV in National Convention assembled in Atlantic City, New Jersey, August 5–8, 2023, urges Congress to enact legislation to protect TDIU for it to remain available for all veterans regardless of age or receipt of any other earned federal benefits.

Random 3)  RESOLUTION NO. 020  -Support Outreach and Employment of Women Veterans

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that DAV in National Convention assembled in Atlantic City, New Jersey, August 5–8, 2023, urges Congress to enact legislation to establish and fund special programs and outreach to women veterans, especially service-disabled women veterans, in need of employment assistance from the nation’s basic labor exchange system and training assistance through programs operated under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that DAV calls for additional training to be provided to service providers to address the delivery of services to, and the underrepresentation of, women veterans in career employment.

I picked three random numbers, came to that page and here are the results. As you can see, there are a lot of different areas we are concerned about as the DAV. Take a minute and check out our 2023-2024 Legislative Program here:   https://www.dav.org/wp-content/uploads/LegislativeProgram_2023_2024.pdf

Please remember, all of these came through Chapters and Departments, generated by members and pushed forward to the National Convention, considered by a committee at Convention, and passed on the floor by the delegates assembled. It all starts at the Chapter level, that is where the power of our organization is. If you have something you’d like to push forward as a resolution, please do so. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me.
