Mille Lacs County Veterans Transportation

Press Release
Free rides to VA medical appointments for the Veterans of Mille Lacs County

Milaca, MN, May 12, 2017:  The Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota is proud to announce the rollout of the Mille Lacs County Veterans Transportation Program. In a partnership with Mille Lacs County and the St. Cloud VAMC, the DAV of MN will have a vehicle stationed in Milaca, MN to provide free rides to the Veterans of Mille Lacs County

The vehicle is operated by Volunteer Drivers and coordinated by Stephanie Zeimetz of the Disabled American Veterans. Veterans are picked up at their home and taken to their appointments by one of our dedicated Volunteers. This service is offered free of charge and is available to any Veteran with appointments scheduled at the St. Cloud VAMC, Minneapolis VAMC or scheduled by the VA in the local community. Spouses or caregivers may also ride along in the vehicle as well.

The DAV of MN is currently searching for additional Volunteers to occasionally transport the Veterans of Mille Lacs County to their medical appointments. Our Volunteers are registered through the St. Cloud VAMC and there is no need for the Volunteer to be a Veteran. The schedule is extremely flexible and our drivers can volunteer to be available one day a week or one day a month. This is an extremely rewarding opportunity to give back to the Veterans who have given us so much.

The new Ford Van will be parked at the Mille Lacs County Government Center. The DAV of MN has plans to have a brand new Ford Flex to replace the current van sometime this summer. Anyone interested in Volunteering, or in need of a ride, can contact Stephanie at 320-252-1670 Ext. 6676.

Any questions about this program or in regards to this press release please contact Trent Dilks, Director of Transportation at [email protected] or 651-788-3186.
