Lyle C. Pearson, Sr Chapter 10 Participates in Minnesota Air Spectacular 2015

DAV MN Chapter 10 in Mankato was asked by organizers of June 26-28  Minnesota Air Spectacular to setup their DAV booth at the Mankato airport for area military veterans to learn about the DAV programs and services provided for Disabled Veterans.

For aviators performing in the weekend’s Minnesota Air Spectacular, Friday was sort of a dress rehearsal. For area military veterans, it was something more — a chance to see the performances without fighting the crowds, to experience tangible appreciation for their service and to get VIP treatment that included golf cart rides from the parking lot to their tent-shaded front-row seating.

The world-famous United States Air Force THUNDERBIRDS showcasing the majesty and power of the F-16s along with the skill and dedication of their pilots, the Air Force’s demonstration squadron performed Saturday in front of a Mankato crowd that likely topped 10,000.   Screaming past at 500 mph, four Thunderbirds in diamond formation performed a simultaneous barrel roll timed to the distinctive string intro of The Verve’s Bitter Sweet Symphony. Later, the foursome pulled off their signature “high bomb burst” maneuver — flying straight up as a diamond before spiraling away like sparks off a firework. A fifth plane, spinning, flies through their smoke trail.

Squeezed in amongst booths from other branches of the military was the chapter’s booth explained chapter adjutant Jo Miller.  “At times the people were two deep as we gave out memorabilia such as pens, green wrist bands, and DAV fliers.”  “Most important, we were able to explain our dedication to a single purpose of empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity.” “Several veterans were invited to attend a future Chapter 10 meeting and how to become a volunteer driver for our DAV transportation program.”

DAV  Chapter 10, wishes to thank the organizers for inviting our chapter to participate in the 2015 Mankato Minnesota Air Spectacular.
