Living in MN we all know how cold it can get and how much snow we can all see throughout the winter. In MN we all adapt to the changing climates by the way that we dress to make sure we can stay warm or cool during the four seasons. Even though we know how hard it can be for some it can be even harder or nearly impossible to find the warm clothes that are needed to survive the harsh winters in MN. St. Cloud Chapter 9 of the MN DAV understands just how difficult it can be for some and recognizing this need Chapter 9 decided to step up and make a difference.
In 2013 Chapter 9 started an annual coat drive to help Veterans and their families who may be in need of these warm clothes. In 2014 the Chapter collected 400 hundred coats that will go to Veterans or family members to ensure they stay warm through the winter season. With the help of C&L Distributing in Sauk Rapids who held an employee coat drive Chapter 9 had a very successful year in getting coats to distribute.

ensuring the donated coats at the St. Cloud Armory were ready for distribution to veterans and their families before winter sets in.
With the help from other organizations such as Warrior to Citizen (Beyond the Yellow Ribbon), Alexandria Post 939 VFW, Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254, and Alexandria Radio the Chapter was able to make sure that all coats were distributed to Veterans in need of warm clothes. What a great success story of how our local chapters support our MN Veterans.
Chapter 9 Commander Jim Fountaine stated, “We are very excited for next year to do this drive again, C&L Distributing will also be helping achieve our goal again to make sure we can help as many Veterans as we can. We are always thankful for the support we get from the local communities that help support us in our cause we couldn’t do it without them.”
