Of all the request we have received at the Hutchinson DAV MN Chapter 37 transportation program for veterans, this one was really special, explained Van Karg, Chapter 37 Adjutant. The long term care unit in Glencoe, MN has a “Make-A-Wish Foundation” for residents. A WWII veteran contacted the foundation with one last wish; to go ice fishing! The foundation director called Chapter 37 Hutchinson and asked if this was something the chapter could help out with. The chapter was honored to be asked and proud to make this wish come true.
On February 6, 2015, a handicap van picked up WWII veteran Robert Hatz at the long term care unit in Glencoe and headed for Stahls Lake where the ice was 25″ thick. There waiting was the owner of the fish house, George Retzlaff and Linda Peterson.
It was a beautiful and a very successful one for Robert, as he caught his limit of fish. He is still full of smiles and talks about his “Just One More Wish” adventure with fellow patients at the long term care unit in Glencoe, explained Van Karg.
