Hutchinson Chapter 37 Taking Care of Neighbors in Four Counties

DAV of Minnesota Hutchinson Chapter 37 and Auxiliary volunteers are well known across four counties for taking care of veterans, the veteran’s family members, and neighbors.  The Chapter 37 volunteer team operates a transportation service in McLeod, Meeker, Renville, and Wright counties for veterans or family members who need transportation to and from medical appointments.  The chapter’s transportation building is located at 177 Third Ave N.W. Veteran and their families who may need the services of the DAV can call 320-587-1000.

In 2014, transportation driver volunteers logged over 21,000 miles.  The Chapter has two different vehicles that they operate; one ambulatory and one handicap van with a ramp.  Both vehicles are available for appointments.  The transportation program offers rides to local area appointments as well as Twin Cities and Rochester for medical appointments.

One World War II veteran said, “Whenever I have an appointment, all I have to do is call the DAV.”  “I have to use a walker, so it is the only way I can get around. The DAV drivers are very conscientious and considerate.” “We go to eye clinics, medical clinics, whatever they need,” Van Karg Chapter Adjutant said. “We’re taking people to dialysis at six in the morning three or four times a week, and there to bring them back.”
