Homeless No More – Stabilizing a Wounded Veteran and his Family Success Story

Goodwill Easter Seals appreciates our local relationship with St Cloud DAV Chapter #9, explained Shelby Hadley Military Services Coordinator. We recently worked together to stabilize a wounded veteran and his family who found themselves living in a motel and facing immediate eviction because of lack of money. Through this relationship, DAV Chapter #9 was able to provide the financial support to keep this family in a hotel for an additional week while resources were put in place to help this family get into supportive housing.  Jerry Patton, Chapter #9 member who works for the Holiday Inn Express where this family was taken to, worked with the hotel manager to make this happen. The service member has just recently been made an offer of employment, the children are enrolled in school and the family is integrating into our local community. He is excited to see how things have changed for his family and is thankful for Goodwill-Easter Seals and the DAV Chapter #9 assistance.

This story is a real success for our Chapter and Goodwill-Easter Seals, explained Jim Fountaine Chapte 9 Commander. He went n to say. “Partnering like this allows the chapter to spread its resourses to help more veterans in need.”  “It was our honor to work toghther to bring forward a cash donation designated for the veteran and his family.”
