DAV Chapter 15 Helps Local Veterans

DAV Chapter 15 recently made a donation of $3,000 to Mankato office of the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans, also known as MAC-V.  MACV-donationSusan Worlds, Regional Director, accepted the donation.  The donation was approved by a chapter membership vote and was based on a long tradition of MAC-V’s local assistance programs designed to reduce and prevent homelessness among Veterans explained Chapter Treasurer Gary Wiltscheck. He went on to say, “Many years ago the Chapter “heard”  MAC-V’s call for a reliable transportation vehicle when MAC-V established their Community Supportive Housing project that would house 11 honorably discharged disabled Veterans.”  “Chapter 15 wanted to help and voted to donate a passenger van in our inventory.”

In November of 2014 Chapter 15 and MAC-V worked together to help a homeless & disabled female Veteran and her 5-year old daughter find shelter, transportation, and employment in New Ulm–Chapter 15’s hometown.  That Veteran now works full time for 3M and due directly to the Chapter and MAC-V’s efforts is able to provide a warm and safe home for the little girl.  Even more recently Chapter 15 connected a donor of furniture with another female MAC-V client who was in immediate need.  Susan Worlds said: “Our partnerships with organizations like the DAV provide a special level of kindness and selflessness that is unmatched in non-Veterans groups.”  “We and those we help are blessed to have such good friends to share our mission of caring for Veterans.”
