All of the DAV St. Cloud Chapter #9 sponsored events for veterans and their families are made possible by donations and the sale of used clothing, shoes and other miscellaneous items collected by two chapter volunteers at the eighteen green DAV clothing bins located in Stearns and Douglas counties. The chapter also has an extensive “Garage Sale” network to collect clothing and other items left over after garage sales; churches, community centers, home garage sales as well as the community-wide St Joseph Minnesota annual yard and garage sale. This fiscal year (July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015) it is projected that 250,000 pounds of clothing will be donated, packed into the three Chapter owned and maintained trailers and delivered on average once per week to the St. Cloud Thrift store where they are sold by the pound.
Pictured above is the popular “DAV Brat” fundraiser coordinated 6-8 times per year by the Auxiliary. It is setup in front of the St. Cloud Thrift Store. Proceeds are used by the Auxiliary for the programs they sponsor.
St. Cloud Chapter #9 is self-sustaining using cash donations and clothing donations to fund the many services projects in the two counties they served. All of the services offered to our veterans and their families are successful because of the hard work of the many men and women volunteers in our Chapter, explained Jim Fountaine, Chapter #9 Commander.
