Record turnout for DAV Chapter & Unit 37 Thanksgiving dinner

A move to the Peace Center at Peace Lutheran Church proved to a be hit for the Disabled American Veterans and the DAV Auxiliary’s Thanksgiving Community Dinner.

A record 390 meals were served at the Peace Center, prepared for take-out or delivery Thursday, according to Gwen Wickman, a first-time volunteer and sister to DAV organizer Van Karg and his wife, LeeAnn.

The dinner had been staged for 21 years at the Hutchinson Veterans of Foreign War Post 906, but was outgrowing that site. Peace Center has more seating, but its larger kitchen also gave volunteers more room to prepare for a meal for such a large crowd.
